This is my Homage to contemporary times...reflecting the volatile and uncertain era we live in today. There's a fire, an urgency which I felt while recording this instrumental in March of 2019...an urgency that opposes the dangerous complacency happening in the World today which has led to continuous acts of violence and racism. In retrospect, back in 69 Jimi Hendrix (with the Band of Gypsys) recorded Machine Gun which perfectly encapsulated the times, both culturally and politically. Reflecting back to 1969 it feels like civilization has progressed very little outside of advances in technology...so the sentiment of War Behind the Sun comes from a similar place, leading to the desire to create a similar instrumental to Machine Gun. There's also an underlying theme...a meditative feeling to this instrumental with the use of melodic colours from the Hindustani Sunset Raag Marva. The finale of this track is directly influenced by Raag Marva. To quote Wikipedia: Marva thaat is obtained by adding a komal Rishabh to the Kalyan thaat. The mood of the Marva family of ragas is strongly and easily recognisable. The Shadja remains in the form of a shadow till the very end, where it almost comes as a surprise. Komal Rishabh and Shuddha Dhaivat are very important. The overall mood of this raga is of sunset where the night approaches much faster than in northern latitudes. The onrushing darkness awakens in many observers, a feeling of anxiety and solemn expectation. Thanks for listening!

I’ve been looking for this band! Psychedelia at its absolute finest......it takes its time, spacious interludes abound, and lots of atmosphere. Interesting tidbits here and there, distorted, pleasing vocals. They obviously don't take themselves too seriously either, but man, this is the real tripped out serious deal. I am hooked.
